The idea
A solution's mass-volume percentage is a solute's mass divided by the solution's total volume, expressed as a percentage.
In practice
Physiological saline used in IV fluids is 0.9% mass per volume, meaning 0.9 g of dissolved NaCl per 100 mL of solution.
Where people slip
Mass-volume percentage mixes a mass numerator with a volume denominator — swapping in volume percentage's formula mid-calculation gives the wrong unit pair.
