Calculating an unknown analyte's concentration from titration data means using the titrant's known molarity and the volume delivered at the equivalence point to find moles of titrant, converting to moles of analyte through the balanced equation's stoichiometric ratio between the two, then dividing that result by the analyte's original volume.

Titrating 25.00 mL of unknown HCl to its equivalence point requires 32.40 mL of 0.1000 M NaOH. Moles NaOH = (0.03240 L)(0.1000 M) = 3.240 × 10⁻³ mol, equal to moles HCl by the 1:1 stoichiometry between the two, so [HCl] = 3.240 × 10⁻³ mol / 0.02500 L ≈ 0.1296 M.

Watch for

Using the analyte's volume where the titrant's volume belongs, or the reverse, is the most common error students make in this calculation.
