The idea
A natural science studies the physical world and its processes, distinguishing it from disciplines that study human society and behavior.
In practice
Biology, chemistry, and geology are natural sciences; sociology and economics study people and their arrangements instead.
Where people slip
The line separates subject matter, not rigor — both kinds of science test claims against evidence.
