The idea
Gibberellins stimulate shoot elongation, break seed dormancy in species requiring cold or light exposure, and promote fruit maturation.
In practice
Treating seedless grapes with gibberellin increases fruit size and loosens clustering, since the seeds that would normally supply it are absent.
Where people slip
Ethylene, covered next, acts independently of gibberellin, triggering fruit ripening and abscission rather than further elongation.
