Cytokinins

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Cytokinins promote cell division, delay leaf senescence, and counter auxin's suppression of axillary buds, working most strongly in actively dividing tissues such as roots and embryos.

Show

Applying cytokinin to a shoot promotes bushier branching by offsetting the axillary-bud suppression auxin otherwise maintains.

Watch for

Apical dominance results from a balance between auxin and cytokinin, not from either hormone acting in isolation.
