This procedure traces one plant's water and sugar movement from soil uptake through xylem ascent to phloem delivery at a growing sink.
Watch for
Confusing the two systems' direction is the most common error — xylem flow runs only upward, while phloem flow runs toward whichever sink needs sugar, sometimes downward and sometimes upward in the same plant at once.
