The idea
Meristematic cells differentiate into three permanent tissue types: dermal tissue for covering, vascular tissue for transport, and ground tissue for photosynthesis and support.
In practice
A stem's outer epidermis is dermal tissue; its xylem and phloem are vascular tissue; its pith and cortex are ground tissue.
