The idea
A proteome is the entire set of proteins a given cell type produces, and unlike the genome, it is dynamic and cell-type-specific.
In practice
A liver cell and a neuron share the same genome but produce different proteomes, because they express different genes.
Where people slip
A proteome is what a cell actually produces, not what its genome could produce — expression, not gene presence, determines it.
