Genetic Maps from Recombination Frequency

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A genetic map places genes along a chromosome in order, using recombination frequency between pairs of genes to estimate the distance between them.

Show

Alfred Sturtevant, in Morgan's laboratory, used recombination frequencies to order several Drosophila genes along one chromosome in 1913.

Watch for

Map distance tracks recombination frequency, not physical DNA length — the two only estimate each other, never equal each other exactly.
