The idea
Many textbooks treat simile and metaphor as rivals, distinguished by the word like. The anchor treats simile as a subtype. On a question offering both, the safer reading is the narrower term: if a comparison uses like or as, answer simile, because it is the more specific true description.

Prefer the narrower true term.
