The Ballad

Captions available

The idea

The glossary defines a ballad as a narrative poem usually written in quatrains with an A B C B rhyme scheme. Narrative is the key word: a ballad tells a story. The anchor's ballad chapter uses Service's poem about a cremation, published in nineteen seven.

In practice

A quatrain story, rhymed A B C B.

Where people slip

A ballad narrates; an ode does not.
