The idea

Thou and -eth fade through the seventeenth century, but inversion, suspension and the subjunctive persist into the nineteenth and survive in the twentieth where a writer wants formality. The skills in this unit are not confined to the oldest band.

In practice

Inversion outlives thou by centuries.

Where people slip

Recent does not mean plain.
