The Procedure, Step Two

The idea

Take the hard sentence alone. Find its main verb, then its subject, then say the plain version aloud in your head. If the plain version is a sentence that could be spoken at a bus stop, the grammar has been solved.

In practice

Say the plain version silently.

Where people slip

If it is not a sentence, retry.
