American Literature / Unit 2 AML 0110 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Style: Sentence, Rhythm, and the Writer's Hand
Captions available
The idea
Style is the sum of a writer's choices at the sentence: length, rhythm, vocabulary, punctuation, how much is said and how much withheld. Style is how a reader identifies an author without a name attached, and the exam asks that question directly.
In practice
The sentence is the signature.
Where people slip
Style is measured in sentences, not subjects.
