Captions available
The idea
The subject is what a work is about; the theme is what it says about that subject. Slavery is a subject; the claim that it corrupts the people who hold slaves is a theme. A theme is a full sentence, and best-describes questions ask for one.
In practice
A noun, against a sentence.
Where people slip
A moral advises; a theme claims.
