ACT Preparation / Unit 4 ACT 0310 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Active Voice

The idea
In the active voice, the subject performs the action. In the passive voice, the subject receives it, and the doer moves to a by-phrase or disappears.
In practice
Active: "The chef prepared the meal." Passive: "The meal was prepared by the chef."
Where people slip
The passive needs more words for the same fact, so a passage full of it turns wordy.
