ACT Preparation / Unit 22 ACT 2128 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Rock Cycle
Captions available
The idea
Igneous rock forms as magma cools; sedimentary rock as buried sediment is compressed and cemented; metamorphic rock under deep heat and pressure. Each can become the others.
In practice
Rock lifted to the surface weathers into sediment, which can be buried and turned into sedimentary rock.
Where people slip
Slow cooling underground makes intrusive rock; fast cooling at the surface makes volcanic rock.
