ACT Preparation / Unit 21 ACT 2004 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Inductive Reasoning
Captions available
The idea
Inductive reasoning moves from many related observations to a general conclusion. It is common in descriptive science, which observes and records.
In practice
Observing that every one of 200 tagged turtles returned to the same beach leads to a general conclusion about that population.
Where people slip
An inductive conclusion can be overturned by one new observation that does not fit.
