ACT Preparation / Unit 1 ACT 0014 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Run-On Sentence
Captions available
The idea
A run-on sentence, also called a fused sentence, runs two or more complete sentences together with no punctuation between them at all.
In practice
"The tide came in fast the children ran for the dunes" holds two complete sentences with nothing marking the border.
Where people slip
A long sentence is not a run-on. Length is never the test; two independent clauses with nothing joining them is.
