Captions available
The idea
An ideology, in the anchor's definition, is a set of beliefs about government, law, justice, economics, religion and gender. Four dominated the century: conservatism, liberalism, nationalism and socialism, and for its first half the last three shared opposition to the first while disagreeing on what should replace it.
In practice
Three against one until eighteen forty-eight.
Where people slip
Romanticism is a mood that feeds one.
