Western Civilization II / Unit 6 WC2 0525 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Partitions of Poland, 1772, 1793, 1795
Captions available
The idea
Prussia, Austria and Russia divided Poland in seventeen seventy-two, the anchor's date; the anchor then jumps to Poland extinguished by seventeen ninety-five. The witness gives three partitions, seventeen seventy-two, ninety-three and ninety-five, the initiative Frederick's and the leading role Catherine's.
In practice
The exam's bullet; the three dates are its answer.
Where people slip
The middle partition rests on the witness texts, not the anchor.
