The idea
Medieval Europe accused Jews and barred them from land and most trades, leaving peddling and money-lending, the root of the greed stereotype. Emancipation was complete almost everywhere by nineteen hundred except Russia. Modern anti-Semitism made Jews the scapegoat for modernity and a "race" by blood.
