The SPD Legalized, 1890: Kautsky Against Bernstein

Captions available

The idea

The new Kaiser dismissed Bismarck and the SPD was legal from eighteen ninety. Its program was Marxist, awaiting capitalism's collapse, while it worked for suffrage and welfare. Bernstein argued gradual improvement was the goal; Kautsky held to revolution. Doctrine rejected revisionism; practice followed it.

In practice

A revolutionary waiting game, the anchor says.

Where people slip

Kautsky and Bernstein are anchor-only; the Erfurt program is unnamed.
