Captions available

The idea

After the Carolingians, disorder lasted to at least eleven hundred. Saracen raiders took Sicily in the ninth century; Magyar horsemen raided from the east in the tenth until Otto I beat them at Lechfeld in nine fifty-five, a witness name, and they settled in Hungary.

In practice

Three invaders: Saracens, Magyars, Vikings.

Where people slip

The anchor omits Lechfeld's name. The witness supplies it.
