Gothic: Pointed Arch, Buttress, Glass
Captions available
The idea
Gothic architecture, from twelfth-century France, replaced the thick-walled Romanesque with the pointed arch, ribbed vault and flying buttress, which carried the roof's weight outside so walls could open into stained glass and cathedrals could rise.
In practice
Light as theology in stone.
Where people slip
This entry rests on the witness texts. The anchor omits Gothic.
