The Lost ARC / Unit 7 ARC 153 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Autonomy Is Volition
Captions available
The idea
Self-Determination Theory defines autonomy not as independence but as volition: acting from your own values and integrated sense of self rather than coercion or compulsion.
In practice
The book's test question: not "Does this person have freedom?" but "Does this person experience their actions as self-endorsed?"
Where people slip
A person driven by guilt, shame or fear is not autonomous, even if technically free.
