Durkheim's Four Types of Suicide

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Durkheim classified suicide by two social conditions — integration, a person's bonds to a group, and regulation, the grip of shared norms — with too little or too much of each producing a type.

Show

Too little integration is egoistic, too much altruistic; too little regulation anomic, too much fatalistic.

Watch for

The types classify social conditions that move rates, never an individual's reasons.
