The idea
Like race, a gender role is a socially constructed expectation for how a person should look and behave, learned rather than inherited from biological sex.
In practice
Toys, chores, and praise are distributed differently to children depending on which gender they are assigned.
Where people slip
Gender role describes an expectation applied to a person, and per CD-4 it is never the same term as gender identity.
