The idea
Humanism, the idea that humankind is beautiful, capable and creative, ran through Greek drama, art and thought. Greek science was mostly wrong in conclusions and right in method. Herodotus wrote history as explanation from sources.
In practice
Socrates, Plato and Aristotle asking whether ethics were nature or custom.
Where people slip
The Parthenon's golden ratio belongs to the same impulse: perfection as balance.
