Social Sciences and History / Unit 16   SSH 1512 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Columbian Exchange as History and Geography

Captions available

The idea

World history teaches the exchange at 0515: crops, animals and diseases crossing both ways, and the Great Dying. United States history states it in one line at 0005. Geography's 1101 gives the crops' independent origins: maize and potatoes from the Americas, wheat and cattle from Eurasia.

In practice

Hearths first, then the crossing.

Where people slip

The disease toll is the anchor's estimate.
