Self-report bias occurs when participants answer as they wish to be seen rather than as they actually behave.
In practice
Respondents report drinking less alcohol and exercising more than the same respondents' logged records show.
Where people slip
Anonymity reduces this bias without removing it. People also misremember, which anonymity cannot fix.
