The idea
The correlation coefficient, r, runs from −1.00 to +1.00, where the sign gives direction and the absolute value gives strength.
In practice
An r of −0.85 between hours of screen time and hours of sleep is strong, and it is negative.
Where people slip
A negative correlation is not a weak one. Sign and strength are two separate readings of the same number.
