Behavior and Mental Process

The idea
Behavior is action observed directly; a mental process is an internal event inferred from behavior.
In practice
Pressing a button is behavior. Deciding to press it is a mental process, inferred from the press and its timing.
Where people slip
Inferred is not invented. A mental process reaches the science only through something observable.
