The idea
The corpus callosum is the band of fibers connecting the hemispheres; severing it leaves each hemisphere without the other's information.
In practice
A split-brain patient shown an image in the left visual field can select the object by hand and cannot name it.
Where people slip
Split-brain patients behave normally in daily life. The dissociation appears only under controlled presentation.
