Philosophical vs. Empirical Questions

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

An empirical question is answered by observation and experiment; a philosophical question asks what observations mean—for justification, value, or reality.

Show

"Which neurons fire during a choice?" is empirical. "Does that firing make the choice unfree?" is philosophical.

Watch for

Science informs philosophy without replacing it—and every science rests on assumptions philosophy examines.
