Property Dualism
Captions available
The idea
Property dualism: one substance—physical—but two kinds of properties: physical properties and irreducibly mental ones, arising from brains.
In practice
One canvas, two descriptions: the painting's chemistry and its beauty. The brain, similarly, may bear properties physics does not list.
Where people slip
Keeping one substance dodges the interaction problem's hardest form—but how physical stuff yields mental properties remains owed.
