Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 23 MAS 558 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Machine's Reading Is Not a Diagnosis
Captions available
The idea
Many ECG machines print an automatic interpretation, but a provider evaluates the findings.
In practice
The printed statement can be wrong, especially when artifact is present, because the machine can mistake noise for an abnormal rhythm.
Where people slip
Never read the machine's printed interpretation aloud to the patient; the provider decides what the tracing means.
