Stipulative Definitions

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A stipulative definition assigns meaning by fiat — a new term, or a new use for the argument at hand.

Show

"For this study, 'heavy user' means six-plus hours daily."

Watch for

Stipulations can't be false — but they can be useless, tendentious, or quietly abandoned mid-argument.
