Steering a Meeting Toward Things

Captions available

The idea

Individual practice includes gently steering conversations and AI requests toward things, and the book gives the moves.

In practice

Step one: when someone uses a broad word such as case, ask what exactly is in a case here, and write the answer down. Step two: when a change is proposed, ask which records the team would need for an audit if this went wrong. Step three: when you use an AI tool, give it the definitions first, and ask for card drafts rather than free-floating feature lists. Step four: when you need tests, ask the tool for test scenarios for one thing or one card, rather than asking it to test this system. Step five: keep your own notes organized by thing, even when nobody else does yet, so that each meeting adds to a picture you can share later.

Where people slip

The tone is gentle. A question asked out of curiosity opens a conversation; the same question asked as a correction closes it, and the method gains a reputation it cannot afford.
