Leading AI at Work: Governance, Rollout and Practice / Unit 1 LAI 021 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Choosing Your Adoption Path
The idea
Choosing between the three paths depends on your influence and the risk in front of you, and these steps apply the book's descriptions.
In practice
Step one: name the work you control today: your own tasks, one project, or a practice that sets standards for others. Step two: name the riskiest thing in that work, the decision or record whose mistakes reach people, money or the law. Step three: if you control only your own tasks, start individual practice on that thing tomorrow. Step four: if you can shape a project, propose a pilot with the three additions, and agree in advance which evidence you will collect. Step five: if you lead a practice, introduce the lightweight standard for high-risk domains only, with templates and a community of practice. Step six: whichever path you choose, decide now what level of maturity would count as success, so that the effort has an end in view.
Where people slip
The paths are not a ladder you must climb in order. Many people start on the first and are invited onto the second, as the analyst in the book's example was; the path follows the evidence.
