Human Growth and Development / Unit 7   HGD 0904 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Corpus Callosum and Lateralization

Captions available

The idea

Lateralization is the specialization of a function to one side of the brain; the corpus callosum, maturing now, carries coordination between the hemispheres.

In practice

Language production engaging mainly the left hemisphere in most right-handed people.

Where people slip

The two are often confused: specialization is lateralization, and communication across the hemispheres is the corpus callosum's work.
