Night Terrors
Captions available
The idea
Night terrors affect about one to six and a half percent of children, peaking at five to seven, and arise in deep sleep.
In practice
A child sitting up screaming, sweating and thrashing, hard to comfort and remembering nothing next morning.
Where people slip
The misconception is that night terrors are bad nightmares. Dreams occur in REM sleep; terrors come from deep sleep.
