The idea
Childcare takes several forms: family care by a relative, a nanny, home day care in another family's home, and center care.
In practice
A slow-to-warm-up toddler settling best in a small home day care.
Where people slip
Center care is reliable and regulated but spreads illness; home day care may suit nervous children; family care preserves bonds and culture.
