Human Growth and Development / Unit 4 HGD 0455 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Sex and Gender Identity
Captions available
The idea
Sex is assigned at birth from the body; gender identity is a person's psychological sense of their gender, which develops later.
In practice
A gender reveal party, which in fact announces a fetus's biological sex.
Where people slip
The misconception is that a gender reveal reveals gender. It reveals biological sex; gender identity is not visible before birth.
