Incontinence and Sleep

Captions available

The idea

Urinary incontinence becomes more common with age, and circadian rhythms shift earlier, with earlier bedtimes and earlier waking.

In practice

About half of older adults reporting frequent sleep problems, correlated with falls, cognitive decline and mortality.

Where people slip

Recommended sleep stays about seven to eight hours in late adulthood; the need does not shrink with age.
