The Molly Maguires, a secret society of Irish coal miners in eastern Pennsylvania, used kidnappings, beatings and murder to protest conditions in the mines.

A Pinkerton detective working undercover in the coalfields for two and a half years.
Where people slip
Ten accused Maguires were hanged in June eighteen seventy-seven, the Day of the Rope. The reprisal crushed the movement.
