The idea
In nineteen twenty-one White mobs burned the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a prosperous Black community, the Yawp says.
In practice
More than a thousand homes burned, and as many as several hundred Black Tulsans killed.
Where people slip
The anchor's chapter does not carry Tulsa; the Yawp does. Witnesses later described Klan violence in the city.
