The idea
The second Ku Klux Klan was founded at Stone Mountain, Georgia, under William Simmons, months after a popular film revived the Reconstruction Klan's image.
In practice
A Klan that publicly renounced violence and drew mainstream support, the anchor says.
Where people slip
It preached Protestantism, anti-Catholicism and antisemitism, and demanded stricter immigration laws. Its members still used intimidation and violence.
