The Treaty of Paris Was Silent

Captions available

The idea

The Treaty of Paris was silent on Native lands. British territory east of the Mississippi and south of the Great Lakes passed to the republic.

In practice

Much of that territory remaining under the actual control of Native peoples.

Where people slip

The anchor states the treaty did not address Native peoples at all, which is how a transfer of land nobody consulted was recorded as settled.
