Answering Only From a Document
The idea
The DAIR.AI guide's first defence against made-up answers is to put the ground truth in the prompt, the actual source text, and ask the model to answer from it.
In practice
Step one: paste the authoritative source: the policy, the contract clause or the procedure. Step two: instruct the model to answer only from that text. Step three: ask it to cite the section or passage behind each part of the answer. Step four: tell it what to say when the text does not cover the question. Step five: check the citations against the source.
Where people slip
Grounding lowers the error rate; it does not remove errors. Research the guide draws on names keeping such answers traceable and current as open problems, so the citations still need checking.
